You can’t miss him! Great news for quality entertainment lovers. Mr Toons will be in Ennis town this year at Ennis Street Festival. This very well  known  circus performer who has been performing throughout the world and has many international awards will be among us for the weekend!

 

"Johnny Patterson - the Rambler from Clare."
(1840 - 1889)

Ballad maker, song writer, musician and circus entertainer, John Francis Patterson was born in 1840 in Kilbarron near Feakle, County Clare. He was billed as "The Irish Singing Clown." In the United States Johnny became one of the best known and highest paid entertainers of his day. He composed songs like "The Hat my Father Wore", "Bridget Donoghue", "Shake Hands with your Uncle Dan" and the famous emigrant songs "Off to Philadelphia in the Morning" and "Goodbye Johnny Dear." His song "The Stone outside Dan Murphy's Door" tells of his youth in Ennis and a shop known as a meeting place for boys and girls. This shop, now called Guerin’s can still be visited. It will be reopening its doors to business and to host a photography exhibition, sponsored by Studio22 honouring the memory of Johnny Patterson at the Ennis Street Festival 2007.

 

Look for Ennis Street Festival Johnny Patterson character on the streets of Ennis.If you can see him and shake his hand, he’ll give you good luck for the year or at least We hope he’ll cheer you up for the day!

 

Dance workshops, to be held in The Glor as part of Ennis Street Festival, learn great dance steps with professional teachers, come along to enjoy the different dance techniques on the 5th of July at the following hours:

1.00 - 2.00 pm Set Dancing workshop with Dick O'Connell, well known in the county, he’s been teaching Set Dancing in Ennis for 20 years.

2.00 - 3.00 pm Musical Theatre with Laura-Jane, Breakthrough Dance Company, it will include 'Fosse' style and dance techniques... Fast, energetic and great fun!!

3.00 - 4.00 pm Salsa for beginners by Rita. Her passion for salsa music and dance has lead her to teach Cuban style salsa in Limerick and Ennis.

Workshop price: €5. Strictly over 12 years old. Tickets available at Glor theatre.

 

CORK CIRCUS

Sir Michael, Knight of The Round Wheel is on a quest to rid the world of the last of the mythical muppet monsters. Watch as he tracks down the evil, vicious, deadly witch Friccatella the Disgusting and her terrifying Muppet Dragon, Binky. But can he also save the beautiful Princess Sophie before she falls foul of the evil witch? Take to the streets of Ennis on Saturday 5th July between 2.00pm-5.00pm to find out as Cork Circus bring their wacky characters to town.

 

Al-Sokaire.

Pure Spanish Flamenco with Antonio Infantes (Singer) and Juan Jose Manzano (Guitar player). This duet has been touring in Spain and Ireland. Their spectacular music will transport you to a world of passion and fire.
They will be performing at The Old Ground Hotel, on Saturday 5th of July at 7.00pm.

 

Aranos:In live performance Aranos sings and plays violin. Electro-acoustic music with East European gypsy influence. Aranos is from Czech Republic.His unique music is a result of wide ranging influences and his performances are enthusiastically received all over the world.

He will be around the different venues in Ennis Town, try to find him. He will be the festival’s jester.

 

THE T'ZERZ-Old school Blues Rock for the 21st century.

This hard hitting performance driven band has the force with them, exciting to watch and listen to "The T'ZERZ' truly brings the essence of all the heavies from the legends of rock era back on stage.  Everyone I've talked to say the same thing after they have seen this band, "these guys are great".
With front man 'Trevor Hansbury' on guitar and vocals this band streams tunes into medleys.  Drummer 'Joe Scales' and bassist 'Tim Long' make an exceptional rhythm section.  Collectively and individually this band has talent with magic in there. They will play in Brandons Bar on Saturday 5th of July, at 10.00pm.

 

 

In a different way.

In a different way is a new painting show taking place in Ennis on July 2008 as part of Ennis Street Festival. Participating artists include Clare based artists Carmel Doherty, Vincent Killowry, Eamonn Murphy, Mick O'Dea, Jesus Orozco, Dave O’Rourke and Caitriona Sheedy.
The paintings will be on display mainly in the windows of the former Flynn’s Pharmacy, on the corner of Market Street and O’Connell Street. The exhibition has been curated by painter Ana Colomer. All works are for sale. Exhibition will start on July 1st until 15th.

Singer/songwriter Billy O ’Brien is that bluesy country voice that goes through to the bone, his heartfelt music tells stories of his travels down through the years, of falling in and out of love and bars around the world. Playing covers for two decades , Billy finally put pen to paper and came up with his first album this year “Aim it for the moon” to much acclaim ( Luka Bloom ) “What an amazing voice, one big hunk of sex”  Keep ears and eyes open for this raunchy voice.                     

 

Clare Youth Service Bands 2.00pm-4.00pm

Ennis Music Project was established in 1996.  The project was set up to give young musicians 15 and over a place to practice and perform at events.  The project enables young musicians to develop their skills and perform live on stage both in local venues including Glór Irish Music Centre and also in National venues including the Sugar Club in Dublin.

An open air barbeque will be on at O’Connell St, organised by Brogans Bar for Ennis Street Festival from 1.00 pm on Sunday 6th of July. Later on the day, at 8.00 pm, an Irish Music Session will take place inside the bar.

SAMBARRADA

Galway based percussion group Sambarrada is a collaboration of six talented musicians from spain,ireland,poland france and chile;their name inspired by one the best known forms of afro-brazilian music.their infectious high-energy performancescombiningfumnky grooves, exotic rhythms have assured them a billing at many high profile events throughout the country

 

Tom Steeles Bar, Trad music.

This traditional session has been going on about 3 years now. It takes place at 8.15 pm most sundays. The players vary but mostly you will find John Rynne, flute, Liam Lewis, fiddle and Graham Dunne, guitar. Whilst it is not a beginners session many other top notch traditional players drop in and there is almost always at least 5 or 6 people playing. Sunday 6th of July.

 

 

FIRE DANCING BY GINA TIERNEY

Gina from Kilamona, Ennis, has been performing in festivals across the USA an Ireland. Her show is focused on Energy & Movement, using fire as her medium, she hypnotizes and thrills the audience.

 

CABARET NIGHT

Vegas in Ennis!!!! You have an act that you think could stun the audience? Why not give it a try at the Cabaret Night of the Ennis Street Festival on July 6th 2008. please send your information to ennisstreetfestival@eircom.net. The Audience on the night will decide who will win the € 500 prize for the best act. The evening will be hosted by some national and international acts like Mr Toons and Fanzini Brothers. Don’t be shy give it a try. An eclectic mix of acts in this night of pure entertainment. Not to be missed ! Doors open at 7pm and Shows start at 8-10pm. Tickets € 12 / € 10 Concession.

 

ARMADA LATINA is the latest Latin music collective to come into the Irish music scene. Members from South America, Spain, Italy an Ireland playing a selection of some salsa classics with a modern twist, a touch of Brazilian Samba and a good measure of Spanish Rumba. A show not to be missed. Bring your dancing shoes.
